Fun & Easy Photo Display
I wanted to find a way to display my family photos on the wall in our living room. I began with frames, but I struggled finding frames that worked and in creating and executing an arrangement that I liked. After creating a small display for a birthday party using photos mounted on matboard, I sat down and mapped out a scaled map of varying print sizes on graph paper that would fit in my space. I chose photos that were both snapshots and portraits, taken by myself as well as other talented photographers we had used for our family photos.
Many years ago a friend’s wedding photographer recommended mpix to me. I’ve always been pleased with their variety of products, customer service, and quality. Using my map, I ordered prints in the chosen size and then, choosing the “Add Mount” link, selected single weight matboard.
Once all of the prints arrived, I mounted them using 3M Command Picture Hanging Strips. This is a HUGE benefit to this kind of display- no wire, no D-rings, no holes in the wall. It also allows me to swap them out if I want to update. (Though to be honest, I’m way overdue for an update!) It also made it really easy to transfer the whole arrangement when we moved to a new house.
While there are a number of companies, including mpix, that provide a wall collage service, I really liked the freedom this gave me to create a design that worked perfectly for my space. In addition, the price was extremely reasonable as the prints cost just over $100.
